Gander’s Ripple Effect: How a Newfoundland town’s kindness made it to Broadway

As we once again look back on the anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001, the story of hospitality shown by Gander and surrounding towns inspires with hope and generosity. A gem of mid-century architecture known in its heyday as the “crossroads of the world,” Gander International Airport took in approximately 6700 displaced airline passengers after the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11, an event portrayed in the Broadway musical, Come From Away. The new CBC documentary, Gander's Ripple Effect, explores how feeding, clothing and caring for stranded air passengers led to lifelong friendships and the creation of the Tony Award-winning hit musical.
