Rooms & Rates

Our rooms are the loving expression of our philosophy.

We know you are making an investment to journey and to stay at Fogo Island Inn. We promise you will experience hospitality unlike anywhere else. Our 29 guest rooms were designed to carry forward the richness of outport traditions in concert with the very best contemporary design elements. The world outside our walls, the natural world, receives love, attention, and respect equal to that which we show our guests. Our food is grounded in this place and every meal, from daybreak through midnight and all points in between, is crafted using ingredients fished, farmed, and foraged right here.

Our outdoor guides will orient you to our “near North” landscape… they know every rock, berry, wildflower, pond, and creature that calls Fogo Island home, and they can’t wait to share this local knowledge with you. Our Community Hosts are looking forward to welcoming you into our centuries-old, place specific culture… a culture that reflects lives lived as fishing people on the North Atlantic.

Your investment keeps our Island strong. The Inn is a Shorefast social business that optimizes for local employment and reinvests surpluses into the community.

Room rates are per night, per room, and based on two persons per room. Family Suite rates are per night, per room, and based on two-to-five persons per room. We designed our pricing to be inclusive of a complete hospitality experience. To that end, rates are inclusive of all meals, a half-day Island Orientation with a Community Host, and most excursions. Any requests within our power to deliver will be met with a smile and without extra charge: laundry services, bicycles, snacks, extra toiletries, and general support and guidance during your trip are all on offer and included in your room rate. Just pay your own alcohol and taxes.

Fogo Island Inn is a non-tipping community enterprise. Our employees participate in an incentive-based bonus plan as part of their compensation. Our pioneering Economic Nutrition certification mark shows where the money goes. For example, 49% of our gross revenue is allocated to the combination of employee salary, bonuses, benefits and related costs. While this is much higher than most hotels, we are proud to return such a high percentage of our revenue to the people who make your stay so special.

We are rooted in our conviction that nature and culture are the two great garments of human life. Our Outdoor Adventure Guides, led by Lorie Penton, are poised to orient guests to Fogo Island’s seven seasons and its subarctic, see-it-to-believe-it landscape. Here, hikes are right at your doorstep, with dozens of well-worn trails within walking and short driving distance of the Inn. If it’s adventure you seek, our Fogo Island born-and-raised nature guides will accompany you on the paths (or lack thereof) less travelled. From foraging for edible plants on the edge of the Earth, to hiking coastlines normally only frequented by animal life, most guided excursions are included in your room rate and will find you awestruck by a natural world you can only begin to fathom.

Made right here, from right here. Using ingredients passed down through the centuries and foraged on our shores only a few hours before hitting your plate, the food at Fogo Island Inn embodies this place. Our team of kitchen collaborators combine the best local ingredients with thoughtful, international accompaniments inspired by Newfoundland’s traditional trading routes. All meals, snacks, and drinks (exclusive of alcohol) are included in the price of your stay, and the Inn is a no-tipping property.

Each of our seven seasons offers a different opportunity to get to know Fogo Island, and perhaps yourself. If you’re visiting for relaxation, the Inn and its amenities offer this in spades: from the comforts of our guest rooms to the Library, Tea Room, sauna, hot tubs, and Cinema, there are plenty of places to simply “be.” Many of our guests also partake in some amount of “doing” while they are with us, and opportunities for action, learning, and activity abound. Included in your stay, take advantage of the half-day Island Orientation with a Community Host to learn about Fogo Island’s singular culture. Get out on the water and on land to acquaint yourself with the sights, sounds, and textures of the natural world. View our Things to Do page to start dreaming of the possibilities that await.

Our guests attest that staying at Fogo Island Inn is far from a regular vacation. While most luxury properties have a charitable arm, our charity has a luxury property. Fogo Island Inn was founded by Shorefast, a registered Canadian charity with the mission to secure economic and cultural resilience for Fogo Island. The Inn has built another leg on the Island’s economy, creating jobs and returning all surpluses to Shorefast for reinvestment in initiatives to make, preserve, and share knowledge.
